Austin rust stain removal, done the right way.

Rust does not sit on concrete, it bonds into it. That is why pressure alone accomplishes nothing except spreading the stain into a wider, fainter version of itself, and why a stiff brush and household cleaner make it look worse rather than better.

Removing it means converting the iron chemically so it releases from the surface, then rinsing it away. Applied correctly the stain lifts rather than fades. Applied carelessly the same treatment will etch the concrete or discolour surrounding stone, which is the main reason this is worth having done properly rather than attempted with something bought off a shelf.

Where it comes from matters as much as removing it. In this part of Texas the usual culprit is irrigation. Well water and some district supplies carry dissolved iron, and every time a sprinkler throws that water across a driveway or a limestone wall, it leaves a trace behind. The orange fan shaped pattern radiating out from a sprinkler head is the giveaway.

The rest is usually fertiliser with an iron content spread onto a lawn and washed onto the concrete, metal furniture left standing through a wet spell, or something like a battery or a tool left in one spot.

If the source is irrigation, cleaning the surface is only half a solution. The stain returns on the same schedule as the sprinklers unless the heads get redirected or the water gets treated.
