Austin has pockets of newer and older construction, and the siding tells you which one you are looking at. Newer homes lean heavily on limestone and stone. Older homes are usually Hardie plank. The two need to be handled differently, and knowing which is which is half the job.

Limestone is porous. When algae is left to sit on it through a season, it does not just stain the surface, it works its way down into the pores of the stone and roots in. Caught early it cleans up cleanly with a low-pressure soft wash. Left too long it becomes far more stubborn to lift, which is the honest reason we would rather see a limestone home sooner than later.

Hardie plank is the opposite. It shows algae faster and more visibly, so it can look worse sooner, but it releases that buildup easily with the right cleaning solution. A home that looks badly overdue is often a straightforward wash once we get to it.

Either way we soft wash. Low pressure and the correct solution do the work, so your siding and stone come back to color without the surface damage that aggressive power washing leaves behind.
