Why some cleaned driveways come out striped
If you have ever seen a driveway with faint arcs or stripes across it after a wash, that was cleaned with a wand. A pressure wand concentrates everything into a narrow jet, so cleaning a wide slab with one means sweeping it back and forth and overlapping by eye. Wherever the passes overlap, the concrete gets cleaned twice. Wherever they do not quite meet, it gets cleaned once. The difference shows up as striping the moment the surface dries, and once it is there the only fix is doing the whole slab again properly.
A flat surface cleaner solves it. It runs two jets under an enclosed head at a fixed height and a constant speed, so every square inch gets the same treatment. That is what produces an even finish rather than a clean one, and evenness is what people actually notice from the street.
The other thing worth understanding is that not all stains are the same problem. Organic growth, the green and black tint that spreads in shaded areas, sits on the surface and lifts easily. Oil has soaked into the pores and has to be drawn back out rather than washed off. Rust is a chemical reaction and ignores pressure entirely. Three different stains on one driveway means three different treatments, not one stronger setting.
It is also worth being honest about the ceiling. Cleaning restores concrete to an even, uniform surface. It does not return it to the colour it was when poured, because concrete ages and lightens permanently over years. Anyone promising a driveway will look brand new has either not seen it or is describing sealing, which is a separate job.
Where the dirty water goes on a sloped driveway
A driveway on a slope decides where the dirty water ends up, and that should be a decision rather than an accident. Before anything is switched on we look at which way the concrete is pitched, because that is the direction everything lifted off the surface is going to travel.
On a long driveway we work in sections instead of one pass down the whole slab. That keeps the runoff in a stretch we can control rather than letting it gather and run the full length. Reach is rarely the problem. We carry enough hose to get to the top of a steep drive without moving the truck and starting over halfway.
Oil changes the order of the job. If a driveway has a heavy oil patch, we deal with that patch on its own, at the point where we can steer what comes off it, instead of letting it wash down with everything else. What we are avoiding is oily water ending up somewhere it should not, and on a sloped lot that usually means the front door, a planting bed, or the neighbor's property.
It is a fair thing to ask about when you get a quote. Where the water is going to go should have an answer before the work starts, not after.
